A new season is upon us that never disappoints; hello fall! The leaves are changing, there’s a nip in the air, and the moon shows up a little sooner to the party than it did the last 4 months. Along with this vibrant season come vibrant wedding details that we absolutely love.

Bold colors. We talked last week about bold fall colors, and it’s no joke. Plum and burgundy are just two of the many colors making a splash on the wedding scene this season. Pair them with a light and bright counterpart and you’ve got a dream of a day.

Nixing wedding toppers. Smaller cakes have been making an appearance this season, and to our (happy) surprise a lot of them are missing the wedding topper…on purpose! Adorn your downsized cake with flowers instead. Use them sparingly or in full arrangements, you can’t go wrong either way.

Dessert bars. Serving wedding cake has slowly been dissipating over the last 2 years or so, to the point where cake is almost nonexistent outside the couple themselves cutting a small cake. The cake has been replaced with dessert bars, offering a plethora of tasty treats for your guests.

Chalk board art. Chalk board art has become so prevalent that there are now chalk board artists more than willing to add their special touch to your day. This doesn’t necessarily need to be limited to a chalkboard medium either. Wood signs with the same beautiful calligraphy are equally a gorgeous addition to any wedding this fall.

Wild bouquets. Don’t be afraid to color outside the lines. Full bouquets billowing with your signature flowers create a whimsical, romantic feel. It doesn’t have to be uniform to be stunning.

Mismatching.  Something we absolutely love for fall 2016 is complimentary décor and attire instead of matching details. Variety is just as aesthetically pleasing and seems to be the theme this season.

Fall is overlooked and understated by too many! This season can serve as a stunning backdrop for a gorgeous wedding. It offers so many avenues for creativity and an expanded color pallet. If you’re undecided about which season is right for you and yours, don’t let it go unconsidered! 

Constructing your Dream into Reality

Having a themed wedding isn’t always the first thing that comes to mind as you begin the planning process for your big day. Or perhaps it is, but you just don’t know how to execute it in a tasteful manner. If you read our blog on Tuesday, you’ll remember how many great ideas there are for tasteful themed ideas. Today we’ll look at how to execute your idea in a flawless manner.

Less is more. This rule holds true for most events, really. When designing a space, a few large pieces and a few more smaller pieces usually balance out the room. It is the same for themed weddings. Choose 3-4 items that you are basing the look of the wedding off of and go from there. If you chose a nautical theme, don’t include every facet of a boat into the décor. Choose a few accessories that can be incorporated in a classy fashion and go from there.

Don’t abandon a committed color scheme. Just because you’ve chosen a specific theme does not mean you should disregard color altogether. Stick with the main palette you’ve chosen to keep every detail tied together. You don’t want a plethora of colors leaving the canvas that is your special day to be disoriented and over saturated, taking away from the important elements you’d like to highlight.

Ask yourself why. Sometimes you end up adding details to your own attire, bridal party attire, reception décor, ceremony, etc. that you are just adding because you feel they “go along with the theme.” When you start to get overwhelmed with too many ideas, start asking yourself why you wish you add whatever it is you’re adding. What will be the benefit? If you take the time to decipher the meaning of each detail, you can save a lot of wasted effort and money on fruitless particulars.

Aim for timeless over trendy. When you’re unsure about a decision, go with something that will be gorgeous through the years instead of gorgeous right now. It helps to take a look at a wedding magazine dating roughly 10 years prior to your wedding date. The trendier fashion during that time period usually looks fairly unappealing, while the more beautiful details end up catching your eye. You want your day to be memorable and timeless, so when making fashion or décor choices, consider what has been proved gorgeous time and time again instead of what’s hot right now. This is especially important when dealing with a theme because you want it to be accurately represented without being distasteful.

These general guidelines will help turn your themed wedding into one that will be remembered for all the right reasons. The main rule of thumb regarding said themes; you don’t have to go above and beyond for your day to be exceptionally stunning. Here’s to a classy themed special day to you and yours!

An unlikely Theme

Are you passionate about an idea that you want to center your whole wedding around? Themed weddings are often tricky to decide upon, mostly because it’s hard to find a way to create a tasteful one to begin with. If you’ve kicked around a couple ideas and can’t pin one down, here are a few broad avenues you can consider on the journey to making your day your own. Hopefully one of them encompasses the overall atmosphere you’re trying to bring to life!

Nautical. If you have a love of the ocean, or perhaps a favorite lake, it’s easy to dive into a nautical theme without going overboard. Simplicity is the key to this theme, and can turn an ordinary venue into an extraordinary space.

Black Tie. Are you a traditional guy or gal? Are you hoping to give your day that fairy tale feel by adding the most classic of elements? Go black tie and get in touch with your elegant side. Long gowns and tuxedoes aren’t utilized enough today!

Rustic. This is easiest and most tasteful way to represent your country roots. The smallest touches, like serving your drinks in mason jars and adding a few wildflowers here and there, can be the best way to give your wedding that rustic vibe.

Modern. Smooth, sleek and chic are the most prevalent modern décor guidelines. High fashion and edgy can lead to gorgeous bold color choices and an individualistic overall scheme.

Vintage. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with bringing a little old fashioned love back into the picture. You can take this as you please; Gatsby, Marilyn or Monet inspired ideas go a long way in making a beautiful day that much more memorable. Or simply employ pieces of art or furnishings from the desired era you’re hoping to bring to life.

Industrial. Where rich mahoganies meet charcoal steel—industrial themes are always a win and extremely popular as of late. Spice up this look by adding more natural greenery to the picture with potted plants or succulents.
