Top Things to Do Your Wedding Week

Can you believe it? It hardly feels real… the final countdown to your wedding day is just here! Your wedding is in just a week, yes – just seven days. Looking at your calendar may cause some panic, but don’t worry we are here to help you create a stress free last few days. We know the last thing that you need to be stressing about is all of the wedding day details. The week before your wedding should be filled with things that are relaxing. Take yourself to the spa, go ahead and get that pedi, enjoy spending time with your family and friends, and know that all of your details have been planned to perfection. But, there are a few things that you, and your wedding planner, will need to handle within those seven days. Let’s talk about how to handle the week before your wedding, logistically and as stress-free as possible.

Confirm with Your Wedding Party

One of the biggest agenda items will be to reach out and touch base with all members of your wedding party. This includes not only your bridesmaids, but your groomsmen, floral girl, parents, future in-laws, and even your officiant. You want to make sure everyone is on the same page with the following information:

  • Time and place for the rehearsal dinner

  • Timeline or schedule of the wedding day

  • Clarify where the wedding party needs to be to start the day and at what time

Ensuring your wedding party has these details will lessen the stress of late members and people that forget. You can even create your list, snap a picture of it, and ask your wedding party to hold onto it in their favorite’s photo album. This will be their handbook for the day. You want to make sure that everyone is on the same page with time and place.

Finalize Seating Chart

Before the week of your wedding, you should have a draft of your seating chart. But, don’t be surprised if you have to adjust and move some folks around. Yes, your caterers and vendors will have received your final count a few weeks ago, but you may need to adjust your seating arrangements with last-minute changes. Maybe your co-worker fell ill and you choose to invite your nail gal. Take this time to ensure everyone is accounted for and finalized for the big day.

Take Time Off

We cannot stress this enough. Take time off for YOU and your fiance. Even if it is just a day or two, you don’t want work to create unnecessary added stress before your wedding day. Use this time to relax and pamper yourself. You can even handle last-minute errands that you need to run. But, even if you don’t take the whole week off prior, leave some time for wedding prep. Don’t hesitate or feel bad asking your employee for at least two days off prior to your wedding. You won’t regret this in the future.

Pay It Off

During the last week, take a good look at your budget and figure out what needs to be finalized in payments. There are some vendors that are paid the week before. In addition, some vendors chose to be paid the day of the wedding. Be sure to create a plan for payments, send or write any checks that you need to, and if you plan on leaving tips for your vendors on the day of, get cash and place it in pre-addressed envelopes. Hand these off to someone trustworthy in your wedding party, or your wedding planner, to hand out the night of. Most importantly, be sure to plan ahead so you, personally, do not have to handle any payments on the wedding day.

Marriage License

This is the most important preparation for the wedding day. You want to make sure that you have ample time to get your marriage in the appropriate county or location. If you are having a destination wedding, pre-plan your arrangements and logistics for obtaining your marriage license. Different locations have different rules. Double check if your state or county has a specified waiting period, you may need to obtain your license a few weeks in advance.

Pack for the Wedding Day

Make a list and pack your bags for the wedding day and evening. You don’t want to rush shoving everything in a bag and forget something. Make a list, check it, and pack everything neatly. You will want to pack separate bags, for you and your partner, including all of your toiletries, getting ready clothes, clothes needed for the wedding night or weekend (don’t forget some comfy clothes), and all of your wedding day necessities.

Check-in with Your Planner

If you have a wedding planner, you’ll want to check in with your planner. Discuss any timeline changes, vendor updates, and go over your rainy day plan (yes- you should all have one!). Handle any last-minute payments or requests during your final meeting. Even if you don’t have a face-to-face meeting in the days leading up to your wedding, you’ll want to schedule a phone call.

Now, these are our top items, which we recommend you do. But, there are definitely some items you DON’T want to do leading up to your wedding. You definitely don’t want to:

  • Self-tan (especially if you’ve never gone before)

  • Try a new skincare routine

  • Decide to cut your hair or change the color drastically

  • Overthink or make any rash changes

  • Or make major changes to yourself

Most importantly, leading up to your wedding, enjoy the time you will have with your family and friends. Don’t be afraid to lean on your wedding planner for some extra support, or delegate tasks that are overwhelming. You are not in this alone! But, take the time to confirm with your vendors and planner, make any last updates to your seating chart, take that time off, pay off your final wedding bills, and don’t forget your marriage license. Enjoy the final days leading up to your wedding and relax!

Summer Wedding Tips and Tricks

The summer months are quickly approaching. We know that the season of summer is a popular time for couples to tie the knot. Many couples believe that summer is the ideal season to hold their wedding, due to the weather, lush scenery, and it allows couples to take advantage of their venue. As wedding planners, summer is our busiest season, we often are double booked through the weekend and are planning weddings throughout the summer. We’ve learned a few things from our experiences with the season – so let’s dive into navigating a summer wedding.

Often when people think of a summer wedding, they automatically think of an outdoor wedding. Whether you chose to host your ceremony, reception, or both outside there are a few important points for you to think about. Weather can be hit or miss. Be sure to have a backup plan for your venue if it is outdoor. You most likely picked your date to celebrate in the sunshine, but let’s face it - weather happens. Talk to your venue coordinator and or wedding planner to discuss a backup plan. The last thing you want is to have your guests stuck in the rain.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, create a plan for the rising temperatures. Summer months can bring hot weather. Plan and execute ways to keep your guests cool. We’ve seen couples use mini fans, misters, personal fans, or even offer beverages prior to the ceremony to keep guests hydrated. You can also turn your ceremony cards into the perfect personal fan with a little popsicle stick. Whatever you do, don’t make the mistake and assume that the weather on your wedding day will be the perfect temperature and climate. Plan for the heat or cool, with the end goal in mind of not only keeping your guests comfortable but making the event comfortable and enjoyable for you and your wedding party too.

One of the perks of planning a summer wedding is the opportunity to use your venue and space at its fullest capacity. When searching for venues, keep the season in mind. Don’t be afraid to utilize the whole space and make the best of your venue. Many couples choose to set up different activities for the cocktail and the reception. Or use the trees for some extra shade for your guests during the ceremony. Use your ceremony space wisely and plan on utilizing the features of your venue. Some of our favorite venue add-ons to make the space extra fun in these summer months are:

  • Firepit: We love a good fire pit. So many memories occur around the fire and you can create a cozy space for the reception and include some yummy snacks. I mean, who doesn’t love a s’mores station!

  • Lawn Games: Lawn games are an excellent reception or cocktail hour addition. Make the best use of the lawn or open space in your venue to create a fun area for all ages. Guests will stay entertained and be able to interact throughout your event.

  • Dance Floor: Have you ever seen a dance floor under the stars? Rental companies often rent floating dance floors. Check with your venue and create a dance floor under the night sky. Add some twinkle lights or Italian light bulbs for some extra flair.

Not only can you create fun and interactive spaces for your guests using the layout of your venue, but when it comes to decor– let your summer venue speak for itself! Venues in the summer blossom, literally. Many venues have features that are only available during the summer months. Ask your venue for pictures of summer weddings, so you can see what the landscaping looks like! The best part is if your venue is outdoors, you can use nature around you to enhance your wedding day. You’re able to save money on a florist and utilize what is around you. We’re thinking of flower pots, gardens, and even trees! Great creative with your space and think about how you can use your venue’s natural beauty on your wedding day.

When it comes to attire, keep the weather in mind. As you search for your perfect wedding dress or wedding party attire, keep this word in mind: comfortable. Think about how your body regulates temperature and plan accordingly. You don’t want to be sweating it out on the dance floor. Plan your hairstyles with summer in mind, too. Yes, you may love yourself a down-do, but you may want to opt for a stylish braided updo to stay comfortable and cool. For the groom and groomsmen, search for outfits that provide options. You may want to ditch the coat at the reception, so shop with these adjustments in mind. Now, if you’re planning your wedding in the heat of the summer, think about swapping to a reception dress. With this option, you can keep it classic for the wedding and main portion of the reception, but switch to something comfortable and cool for the dancing.

Not only are summer weddings popular, but they offer endless opportunities to utilize the venue to its fullest. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and plan some additional outdoor entertainment for your guests. Work to keep your guests hydrated and comfortable throughout the event, by preparing for the heat, or summer storm. And, keep your event natural by using the natural beauty of the venue around you. It's a Hot, Hot, Summer Wedding Season

A summer inspired wedding tablescape

Summer is one of our favorite seasons.

And everything about planning and hosting a summer wedding, is all about love and fun under the sun. Summer provides a lush backdrop and a colorful inspiration for any couple. Some of our favorite weddings we’ve ever planned and/or coordinated, were held in the summer. So, let’s go down our list of fresh, new summer ideas that will keep your guests entertained, and help your wedding go down in the record books.

#01: Be Playful with Nature
Summer provides a beautiful landscape and backdrop for any reception or ceremony. Choose a venue that features the beauty that summer provides. When it comes to florals and wedding decor, be sure to use flowers that can withstand the summer heat. No one likes a wilted hydrangea on a hot summer day. Select florals that are summer blooms and that can withstand the whole wedding day. Some of our favorites are tropical florals, desert blooms, or even a touch of cacti. Be creative and think outside the box with your floral selection. And, of course, be sure to use what nature provides with your venue itself.

#02: Eclectic and Fresh
We always look forward to seeing what color palettes and themes our summer clients select. Summer is all about beautiful sunny days and vibrant summer nights. When planning your color palette, think of fresh, bright, and fun summer hues that can spice up your event. Do not be afraid to mix colors or patterns. Work to create a space that shines brightly on a summer night. Add a variety of colors to keep your wedding light and airy, with lots of fun.

#03: Summer Hydration
With the heat of summer, don’t forget to keep your guests and your wedding party cool with drinks. Now, drinks don’t always have to be alcoholic. You want to be sure that you are providing your guests with plenty of hydration, from water. Have a water station available for the whole event. Whether you choose to just serve tap water, bottled water, or infused water, you want to make sure that your guests are staying refreshed in the summer heat. For alcoholic beverages, have fun with your signature drinks! Keep it light and fresh with some new summer cocktail recipes.

#04: Wedding Favor Fun
Spice up the traditional wedding favor with something fun and practical in the summer weather. You can incorporate summer, in a fun and even practical way! Or, utilize what summer in your area has to offer, with a sampling from a local farmer’s market or garden. There are so many ways to get creative with wedding favors during these hot months. Some of our all time favorite summer-themed wedding favors are:

  • Personalized Drink Koozies

  • Personalized Sunglasses

  • Fans to Keep Cool

  • Fresh Fruit

  • Jar of Honey

Whatever you choose, get creative and think of a fun, summer-themed way to surprise your guests.

#05: Frozen Treats
Who doesn’t love a cool treat on a hot, summer day? One of our favorite memories as a child is waiting, hearing the ice cream truck jingle, and running after it. Ditch the usual dessert bar for your summer wedding this season. Many couples are opting to have a food truck, or dessert truck grace their wedding reception. Guests can enjoy a cold cup of shave ice, or even their favorite ice cream dessert from a local food truck. Frozen treats and desserts are a fun way to stay cool during your summer affair.

#06: Thoughtful Timeline
When you sit down to create your timeline for your wedding day, keep the summer season in mind. Planning your ceremony for 2PM, may not be the best choice. Plan and look at the hottest times of day. You want to make sure that you keep your guests comfortable and that you stay cool in your wedding day attire. A popular ceremony start time for these summer months is an evening wedding, around 5PM or 6PM. Having an evening ceremony is the perfect timing for the sunset and allows a much more comfortable temperature. Guests won’t have the blaring sun beating down on them, and trust us – you’ll want some golden hour photos. Be thoughtful when you create your timeline, this includes thinking about the temperature when the reception is set to end. Summer nights can be chilly, so be prepared to keep your guests comfortable at all points of the day.

Summer is a hot season for the wedding industry. It’s not only our busiest season, but it offers endless opportunities to get creative in your planning and create a memorable event for your wedding party, guests, and your partner. As you sit down to plan, utilize all summer has to offer and sneak in some summer treats. Don’t forget to keep your guests hydrated with fresh summer drinks and be thoughtful with your timeline to keep your guests happy and cool. If you do this, your wedding is sure to create some hot, hot memories.
