Today we are introducing a new weekly feature where we look back over the past 11 years and pop in on our former EA couples to see where they are today.
First off is Ashley + Andy who got married May 30, 2009. I met Ashley in high school and then reconnected after she got engaged. I was lucky enough to coordinate her older sister and cousin's weddings too. I have loved working with this family and can't wait to do another.
Looking back on your wedding day, what stuck out the most?
As cliche as it sounds, it was a perfect day! Everything went well and we had crazy nice weather - 90 degrees on May 30th!? - which made for great pictures and a gorgeous sunset. Celebrating our marriage with so many friends and family, from near and far, was so special to us.
What was your favorite part of the wedding planning process?
Choosing the songs for our wedding! Something we could both take part in. I loved choosing the flowers, dress and cake...but I don't think these are at the top of Andy's list LOL.
Tell us about what you are up to now?
Today we are a busy busy busy family of 5! In Andy's wedding toast, he said "The best is yet to come!" I wondered how that could be true...isn't your wedding day the best day ever?? But he was right. We've been busy! Andy continues working hard at growing his business, User Research International, and I have taken a "break" from (paid) work to be home with our 3 munchkins - Valerie (4), Lydia (3) and Connor (1). Because having 3 kids in 3 and a half years just wasn't keeping us busy enough, we decided to build a home too (why not?). Most of our free time consists of...wait...what is free time? Actually, when we can, we like to get out for family bike rides and to the park, or visiting with family and friends.
What advice do you offer couples?
Oh man. 7 years in, two houses, 3 kids, and a whole lot of road ahead of us...I guess I would say, make "I'm sorry" and "I love you" the most well used phrases in your marriage. And mean it. Those are some powerful words when spoken from the heart.
