Why Fall Weddings are IN!

When you think of the fall, what do you think of? I picture crisp air, with fresh scents, and landscapes adorned with warm colors. Yes, summer is a beautiful season within itself, but there is something about having a wedding in the fall. Most couples automatically want to plan their wedding for the spring or summer months, but we’re here to tell you all of the advantages of hosting your nuptials in the fall. Now, we’re talking about September, October, and November weddings. Let’s dive in and talk about why fall weddings are IN this season.

01: Weather is Everything

The weather is a major perk of a fall wedding. Yes, summer weddings are great - sunshine… but can we talk about hot and humid summer weddings? If you’re a southern bride, choosing the timeframe of fall and leave your guests feeling comfortable and avoid having to figure out back up plans for heat and humidity. Autumn weather brings cooler temperatures, but not temps that are too cold. For some locations, snow may hit early, be sure to chose your venue wisely!

02: Venue Options

Planning a wedding in the fall gives us ample flexibility when choosing wedding venues. Spring and summer tend to be the peak seasons for the wedding industry. Selecting a venue that has open dates in that time frame can limit your choices. Couples that choose fall can often have more venue availability. Now, when choosing your venue, be sure that it is weather and seasonal appropriate. Opting for a venue that is cozy and shows off the beautiful landscape, or has a killer indoor ceremony and reception area are ideal for hosting autumn nuptials.

03: Oh, the Flexibility

Not only are more venues available in the fall, but this goes for vendors too! There tends to be more wiggle room with fall weddings and more folks in the industry are open, because the peak season is ending. Not only does this give you more flexibility with your vendors, but you are able to be flexible with using the space of your venue! Opt for some cozy blankets, for an early fall wedding outside and utilize the indoor space for venues. Depending on the time in fall you chose, you may be able to utilize the venue to its fullest.

04: Bring on the Fall Decor

Something about all of the fall decor gets me excited. There’s nothing like walking into the store and seeing all of the fall decor and colors. The decor in fall is like nothing else. The colors are warm and create a cozy atmosphere. We love all the burnt oranges, reds, burgundies, golds, and emeralds.. This is the perfect season for any bride who loves jewel or even muted tones. It screams decadence and warmth. One of our favorite part about fall weddings are the seasonal flowers! We all love walking down Pike’s Place Market during this time of year and viewing all of the vibrant colors. Dahlias and sunflowers are a perfect option for brides this season. And of course, who doesn’t love a good pumpkin in the centerpiece. Couples during this time can really utilize the season, or just create their own fall vibes without any of the traditional “fall” decor.

05: Landscape

Fall in the pacific northwest is absolutely breathtaking. If you’re a PNW couple, definitely utilize this season for the landscape. Some of our favorite fall weddings have been on the peninsula, Snohmoish, and all around the greater Seattle area. Venues that display the gorgeous landscape the PNW has to offer in the fall is a great choice for any couple. The best part is, you can let the landscape do the talking! Find a venue that showcases’ the landscape and let mother nature bring forth her decor.

06: Seasonal Food

I don’t know about you but in the summer, when it’s hot and humid, having a big meal is not my cup of tea. But there’s something about a warm and hearty meal as the weather starts to turn. Many caterers offer seasonal food during the seasons. And we all love a good fall menu! You can select food that is warm, butternut squash soup, savory appetizers, and more. You are able to create a menu that not only fills up your guests, but leaves them wanting more.

So, skip the summer weddings. There are so many benefits to planning and hosting your wedding in September, October, and November. The PNW offers so many venues with drop dead gorgeous landscapes, utilizing the decor nature has to offer! If you’re a bride that enjoys jewels or warm tones, fall is the season for you. Don’t be afraid to play with colors and let the vibrance of the season shine. Treat your guests to a warm fall menu, filled with food that will leave them cozy and warm. And, choosing a date on the calendar that is “off” season, offers you a little more flexibility with availability and booking. Fall Bohemian Wedding | Jill + Shane | Brown's Point Improvement Club

Photographer & Video: Moments and Mountains |  Wedding Planner: Elegant Affairs | Venue: Browns Point Improvement Club

One of our favorite parts about wedding planning is that sometimes we are lucky enough to plan and coordinate our loved one’s weddings. In the past, we’ve coordinated our sibling’s weddings, our former assistants and planners weddings, and even some of our close family friends. We are truly blessed and lucky to have an opportunity to help our loved ones celebrate such a momentous occasion! Tiphany knew this fabulous couple, Jill and Shane, and we had a blast going through their next adventure with them helping them tie the knot!

They chose the Browns Point Improvement Club for their wedding venue. This venue is nestled in a neighborhood in Tacoma, located right next to the beautiful Lighthouse Park on the sound. Let us tell you, the sunsets at the venue are unreal. It is the perfect venue for couples who want a little bit of the coastal flair. Jill and Shane chose to have their ceremony near the water. The couple chose elegant bohemian decor, with pampas grass adorning their altar and the bridesmaids wore a beautiful shade of burnt orange – in velvet of course – swoon! Regardless of the wind off the Puget sound, the ceremony was elegant and intimate.

For the reception, we loved the modern touches with the neon lighting featuring the phrase “better together”. More bohemian touches were featured in the reception space, but the light pink and white roses added some pops of color throughout the space and floral decor.

We absolutely love the chance to hop in and help our family and friends. Jill and Shane’s wedding was filled with love and we were so glad to help make their wedding dreams come true.

Guest Book Alternatives

We’ve all signed the guest book at a wedding. Some are just notebooks, while others are picture books with empty spaces to sign. Oftentimes guest books can be overlooked, so it’s becoming more and more important to create a meaningful opportunity of connection with your guests. Creating a meaningful opportunity for guests to share advice, remember a fond memory of you and your partner, and get creatively involved in the guest book process is key. So, let’s dive into some of our favorite, new and old, guest book alternatives!

01: Leave Us a Tip or Advice!

This is one of our favorites. Not only can it be insightful, but some of your guests’ tips are just downright fun. Think of a creative way to create a space for guests to leave you advice or a tip. You can leave it in a notebook, or create a jar with little pieces of paper. Whatever you choose, give your guests an opportunity to share their words of wisdom. Not only will it create a fun interaction for your wedding guests, but it will give you and your partner something to dive into post wedding. Open a tip weekly or monthly! Make it a game – there’s always value in your loved ones’ advice!

02: Photo Fun

Everyone loves a good selfie. Create a fun and lively space for your guests to spend some time in, with a photo booth! You can create your own DIY photobooth with a backdrop of your choice and props, or you can hire a professional to run the photobooth stand. Even as wedding professionals, we can’t help ourselves but take some cute photos in the photo booth. Guests will be able to take home a memory of your wedding day and you will be able to have memories of your guests. Don’t forget to leave out some props, everyone loves a good prop!

03: Bucket List

This one is similar to the advice/tip jar, but have your guests help you create a bucket list of items to complete as either a newlywed couple or throughout your marriage! This can be date ideas, places to travel, or even locally eat! You can have a physical bucket, with slips of paper for your guests to write on, or an outline of a bucket on a canvas to hang in your home. Your guests will have a blast creating your bucket list items and it adds a little spin to the traditional guest book.

04: Notes for Years Ahead

Have your guests write notes for milestones in your marriage! You can have guests write “messages in a bottle”, write on a letterhead, or even write on a bottle of wine to open. Your guests can freely write their thoughts, whether advice, tips, or fun bucket list items, this will be an opportunity for you and your partner to reminisce down the road! It’s also a fun and simple idea to tie in any wedding themes or design you  may have.

05: Wedding Video

Your guests can sit down in a cozy space and leave a special message, through video, for your and your partner! This is an intimate idea that will produce memories of your wedding day, featuring those who love you. You can record it on a phone, or set up an ipad to receive all of the messages. This option allows you to see your loved ones, and let’s be real– you can never have too many videos of your family and friends.

06: Find your Favorite Passage

Bring a book, or even your Bible, to act as your guest book. Whether it is a book filled with your favorite poems, or a journaling Bible, your guests can look through the text and highlight a passage or phrase that is meaningful to them. They can write a note, express their love and thoughts, and it’s something for you and your partner to cherish down the road.

07: Statement Wall Piece

Whether you purchase something on Etsy, or at your local craft fair, many couples are choosing or creating a statement wall piece that they can hang in their home and having their guests write loving messages on it. This is a fun, but simple way to remember your wedding, see all the guests in attendance, and feel the love on a daily basis. You can also get creative with this idea, and hey – it wouldn’t hurt to have it match your everyday decor.

Whatever you decide, when creating or choosing your guest book, keep a few things in mind.

First, make sure that it is interactive and something more than just blindly signing your name. Next, make it meaningful to you and your partner. You want this to be something you cherish for years to come. Last, make it accessible and in a space that your guests will visit and complete. You don’t want your guest book to be overlooked in all the wedding day fun!
